I'm pretty sure that this has been posted before (in fact.. I probably asked this question before), but I was wondering what everyone has their J&S settings at? In particular, the sensitivity. It seems like I get a lot of activity if I set it at anything about around 9:15-9:30.
Also, I know that pinging is supposed to sound like sand in my engine bay... but how loud is it? It's hard to tell what's what when I can hear relays going off, my purge cut solenoid valve clicking, the supercharger whining... etc..etc.
Thanks!

You won't hear anything if the J&S is doing its' job!
I used to have mine set at 9 o'clock, but eventually turned it down to 8:30 to get rid of some false alarms.

Hmm... I guess that could mean I can turn down the sensitivity a tad? I think Zip has his set at 10-10:30. That's why I thought my settings might be too insensitive, effectively defeating the purpose of having the J&S.
<shrug> I'll go play around with it some more tonight. =)

I'm in the same boat - I run around 10:00 and get a lot of activity under certain conditions but it's hard to tell if it's "falsies" or not. After having a broken ring land even with the J&S in the car (although my fuel system at the time was woefully inadequate) I am a little nervous to turn down the sensitivity.
I'm also running approx. 1 deg/psi retard.

Yeah. I have my boost retard start set at 0 and I'm retarding approx. 1 deg/pound of boost.
Hard to tell if the activity is false alarms, isn't it?

YES!
I'm pretty sure some of it is legit since it shows up when I'm in boost at low RPM and high load - I believe my large injector / VAFC hacking around has led to some issues with the ECU advancing ignition timing when I'm accelerating even though I'm under boost since the VAFC negative trim makes it think I'm at partial vacuum. I need a standalone SO bad.

Things to keep in mind when comparing settings include:
1) Location of Knock Sensor. Mine is on the header support bracket.
2) Stock Knock Sensor or GM. Mine is a GM.
3) Octane. I use 94.
4) J&S Version. Mine is a classic.
I know mine is still doing it's job because unless I boost octane even further, I get J&S activity at high RPM's in 3rd and 4th gear if I turn my BTC lower than .4.
Plus, it still occasionally picks up the VTEC engagement noise as detonation.
